STORY

The pace of social media is fast. When we make daily posts, we generate a tremendous amount of information. I often wonder if we slowed down the pace of our contributions, I wonder if this could both improve the value of content, and help to slow down the pace of our lives.

As a way to communicate between farms and farmers, we could arrange a network where participants make one post per month. Farmers can make a post about what they’re up to, an event or a gathering. Farms, or farm representatives, can make another post sharing the status of the farm. Anyone may post to Mall Hub Regional Tier pages about events or happenings within or among neighboring tiers. The Web tier can provide general updates.

The farmer post may be about anything. A minimum of 280 characters or somewhere around there, some number of words to allow folks to elaborate and provide a proper update. Over time, posts accumulate and after awhile we have a descriptive story of our life.

As a brief example of this, I have been writing friends and family since about 2006. I write about a half to two page update about every two months. And now several years into this long adventure, it’s nice to have this story to remember it by and to share with others. I can only imagine others may find the same benefits by updating friends and family often.

Farms, can provide updates on the status of the farm. The general goal of farms could be to arrange a sustainable, self-supporting homestead. General goals would be to grow plants, trees, and mushrooms, raise creatures insects and fish, trade seeds, build homes, conserve filter and store water, produce renewable electricity, and create biofuel from waste. These goals, and others, are further detailed in the farm course, Sustainable Living Made Simple.

In addition to a farmer post, farmers may make posts or comment on posts regarding projects within and among the Mall, Hub and Regional tiers. Integrated projects such as: train lines, roads, bike paths, hiking trails, schools, youth services, social services, healthcare, utilities, forest planning, waterways and ocean preservation. We could attempt to log metrics to keep us on a general path toward sustainability. The web tier could coordinate website hosting, maintenance, and maybe some kind of positive online gaming experience.

Limiting the frequency of our posts may provide us time to make progress on personal and community projects. This slowed pace of updates could help us clarify our experience here and figure out what we are about, as individuals and communities.

Just to note, when we make posts, whether on a personal page or group page, it is in our interest to try to be considerate, as if we were speaking to anyone. When we collect our stories, we weave our voices into the fabric of civilization, a solidifying rug of memories unrolling in tandem with the physical world.

An idea to aggregate stories can bring forth differing opinions. Hopefully in time, we can learn tolerate, forgive and coexist. Okay that’s the general idea. A coordinated effort to share our stories and increase the resilience of our communities. Thanks for hanging with me. I look forward to working with you to creating a world of sustainable coexistence.
